Let's Just Agree to Disagree, Hmmmm?

When you work with a bunch of right-wing neo-conservatives, conversation can often be confrontational. I stay out of it. I don't want people to know who I'm voting for, nor the laws I support. I don't want to explain why Proposition X, Y, or Z is supported by ignorant asses.

The thing that truly chaps my ass though, is people who ignore the other point of view. These are the poeple who drive me nuts, although I've learned over the years to not even get in a discussion with them. Because they never lose (in their own mind). Because what you think doesn't matter. Because you're an "idiot" if you disagree with their right-wing lunacy. When the talk turns to politics, I change the subject.

These people never agree to disagree, they choose to denigrate anyone with a differing viewpoint. The biggest example at my place of work went through a long, messy, expensive divorce last year. Wonder why? He also takes the word of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as gospel. Any supporter of Obama is immediately labeled a communist. He's one of those "I've got mine, everyone else can go to Hell" type of people.

I don't know why some people can't just agree to disagree and go on. I think insecurity plays a part. Lack of interaction with people of different faiths, backgrounds, and ideologies contributes, also. It's just their smug "know everything" attitude that ruins it.

Bet you know someone like that. They seem to multiply faster than others.

Yeah, I hear ya. Why can't we all just get along? I'm with you on the idea that people who're that adamant about their opinions are people who have issues.

I worked in a place like that with loads of intense right wingers and they couldn't even bring themselves to acknowledge that liberals ever had a single good idea.

When people can't even engage in a civil discussion on issues, it tells me I want nothing to do with them. They don't have to agree with me but they should at least respect the fact that I too am entitled to my opinion even if they don't agree.

And it's only going to get worse between now and November. I'll be glad when this election is over, because I'm 'over' it.

well by your logic the arch conservatives would have out bred all the liberals and given how close the last election was we know that hasnt happened.

personally I tend to lean conservatively -believe in getting by in life on your own efforts and not govt hand outs esp since the generation before mine didnt fund the entitlements they will end up bankrupty our country with ie SS. I getting up there in years and have worked and paid payroll taxes for over 30 years -the tax rate for SS never changed despite more poeple drawing check while less are working.

I also grew up in a family owned retail and an working cattle ranch so I always liked the idea of less govt regs being a good thing.

But I agree you should be able to discuss WHY you feel the way your do about issues. I think the PROBLEM is most people have no clue why they should feel that way they toe the party lie that guys like Rush or old Gore tells them to believe.

But face it all of em are crooks and short of a global disaster of biblical proportions the system we have wont change and ultimately the issues are just fluff to distract us from noticing that enough to demand change
